I stopped buying so many DVDs once I realized how many damn movies there were out there and now I'm just trying to see as many movies as I can. Same with CDs. I mainly just do iTunes DLs

Identity Issues

Posted : 7 months ago on 25 October 2016 02:42 (A review of Identity Thief)

A funny but messy road trip comedy. Bateman and McCarthy have great chemistry but there are other unnecessary and unfunny characters involved that take too much focus off of what really makes this movie work.  In fact, there were multiple issues with the film's identity, it didn't seem to know what it wanted to be.

In the end, I was glad I saw it because it was good harmless fun and it made me laugh.

Extra points for shooting a road trip across the United States in the one state of Georgia.

Man Who Could Fly and Woman Who Flew with Him

Posted : 7 months, 3 weeks ago on 5 October 2016 06:08 (A review of Sunshine Superman)

6.8/10

A documentary about pushing the limits on the body, love, and your dreams. Filled with challenging imagery and strange real-life characters.

A Roller Coaster of Deaths

Posted : 7 months, 3 weeks ago on 5 October 2016 05:46 (A review of Final Destination 3)

The guiltiest of pleasures. This time they're on a roller coaster and this time the ending is quite different.
Where will they go from here?

A Stand-Up Film

Posted : 7 months, 3 weeks ago on 5 October 2016 06:02 (A review of Stand Up Guys)

A geriatric film about the end of life and, more so, friendship. Walken, Pacino and Arkin show they can still entertain even with a mediocre production.

The main deterring factor was the rape/woman-in-a-trunk storyline. It was convoluted, insensitive and unnecessary to the story. But I did love the "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" finale!

Not Enough Edge

Posted : 9 months, 2 weeks ago on 9 August 2016 03:21 (A review of Over the Hedge)

One of the first examples of: Just because they use computer graphics and celebrity voices doesn't mean it's good.

They used a lot of family tropes and cliches. The story had potential but never broke out of its mundane existence.

Is it fun? Yes. Is it for the kids and will they enjoy it? Yes

DiCaprio Tries to Take it to 11

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 26 April 2016 05:31 (A review of The 11th Hour)

Much better than "An Inconvenient Truth" in the fact that it doesn't insult your intelligence and it inspires the audience to do better for Earth, not just piss us off.

Love in the Time of Crime

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 23 April 2016 02:10 (A review of Love Crime)

Don't fuck with Christine.
This French thriller was entertaining; and the head-to-head battle for love seemed relentless. A much better version than De Palma's 'Passion'.

A Thawed Effort

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 18 April 2016 05:56 (A review of Frozen)

I completely get the appeal to young kids, girls and boys, but few elements translate to decent entertainment for adults. It was rather disappointing, after hearing all the hype.

Turns out the only thing that deserves the hype is the music, and even the music wasn't that great, besides 'Let it Go'. And all those various renditions storming youtube are often times more well done, even with the amazing vocal talents of Idina Menzel.

Thankfully the animation is still pretty to look at, even if we have to believe a snowman stationed near a fireplace for several minutes wouldn't melt.

A Fantastically Odd Film of Something

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 17 April 2016 08:11 (A review of A Fantastic Fear of Everything)

A fantastically odd piece of absurd circumstance. Beautifully filmed and staged, this one may lag in the second act but comes back strong.

A Fantasm en Rouge

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 6 April 2016 05:17 (A review of Red Obsession)

An extensive look into the Chinese wine market and their new obsession with Bordeaux, narrated by... the Aussie, Russell Crowe?

I enjoyed the arc of this story and the cinematography even if they seemed to run out of aerial shots because they were often repeated.
