“Since I kept hearing some really good things about this flick, I was really eager to check it out. The tricky thing is that it is in fact a really pre”

Director: Elia Kazan His 17th Movie. My 9th movie watched from the director. Here Kazan goes off brand and dives into the style of the American New Wave of the late 60s. It's less successful than others like "Easy Rider", "Bonnie & Clyde", or "The Graduate"; but still has enough impressive and strange editing, production design and anti-family norms to make it respectable. The three leads are great and keep us engaged. Sadly the third act drags a bit and the editing begins to be overwrought. Solid try, Kazan, solid try!

Director: Otto Preminger His 21st Movie. My 5th movie watched from the director.Sinatra plays this role perfectly, but his two female co-leads, Kim Novak and Eleanor Parker, steal the show - Sorry Blue Eyes. The movie can be a bit dramatic and the production quality is forgettable. Also, the editing isn't great, especially in the very important final scene. With all that said, this is pure Preminger directing and he does it well. The film moves along nice and the characters are always interesting. There is a twist near the end, so I'll ask you to look forward to that!

Director: Taylor Hackford His 8th Movie. My 6th movie watched from the director.I had heard so little about this movie and see its low rating that I came into it with low expectations. I wanted to see an early film by Hackford and here it is, an all-American film about a rise to glory, glory, and faded glory. It's actually a very nice and moving film. I don't care to look into why it's rated low but I will say my opinion is it should not be. I tend to like movies that take us through the bulk of characters' lives. See their rise, their mistakes, regrets, and successes. I find that all, plus reflection, very entertaining. As far as production value, it is pretty weak. It relies on the story and performances. It's a good effort by Hackford and his cast.

Director: Jonathan Demme His 8th Movie. My 14th movie watched from the director.I finally get the chance to watch this legendary concert film. It's creative, entertaining, and what concert movies have probably tried to top since, and likely failed. Still not as great as "The Last Waltz" but the reputation is understandable.
