Thanks for the vote and comments on the action movies list. True, Airport isn't really an action film, I've now changed it.

Arthur is Still a Rich Alcoholic

Posted : 10 months, 3 weeks ago on 10 April 2019 02:33 (A review of Arthur)

First, not as good as the original.   Not surprising or expected.  Second, I can't help but enjoy Russel Brand's brand of humor, as I know it's not for everybody. And who doesn't like Helen Mirren? With these in the lead roles it's impossible to have a bad time. However, the editing is atrocious and the structure gives us no surprises.

Still, if you're looking for a fun, light-hearted comedy, you're likely to enjoy this movie.

Den of Alphas

Posted : 12 months ago on 4 March 2019 07:03 (A review of Den of Thieves)

Rated 6.1/10

A heist movie that wanted to be macho and clever but only did it in a mediocre way. The film felt a little dated, but still proved to not be a waste of time.

Too Simple of a Movie

Posted : 12 months ago on 4 March 2019 06:59 (A review of A Simple Favor)

Rated 6.1/10

A pretty fun film with notable performances lead by Blake Lively; but the few twists at the end were lame and made us not really like any of the characters.

Shrek Never After This...

Posted : 1 year ago on 1 February 2019 09:28 (A review of Shrek Forever After)

I suppose they proved there was more story to tell, but this is the least compelling entry of the series. The Rumpelstiltskin character is funny, at first, but is quite annoying by the end. Plus, none of the other characters are as funny as they have been in past outings. The series was best with 'Shrek 2' because it was able to tell an adventure story with comedy at the forefront. More importantly, the comedy wasn't lame, for the time.
Let's hope this is where it ends...

The Cutthroat World of 3D Printing

Posted : 1 year, 4 months ago on 11 October 2018 04:06 (A review of Print the Legend (2014))

Ok, not really cutthroat, but the competition is alive! An in-depth look at the 3D printing industry, the people behind the brands and the uncertainty behind the product.  I didn't really care to learn so much about the people. I was more interested in past, present and future of the product. I realize a great documentary often has that person-interest element, but this one didn't need SO much of it.

A Box of Fun

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 7 September 2018 05:24 (A review of The Boxtrolls)

Laika has great ability when it comes to seamless stop-motion and their stories are clever and quirky. This film doesn't go off-trend but it does lack in comedy where there should be. The characters, especially the trolls named after their previous box contents, are memorable and it's a good addition to the Laika brand.

Smelly Catfish with an Ego

Posted : 1 year, 9 months ago on 7 May 2018 03:20 (A review of Catfish)

A small movie starring a big ego and bruised people.

While the main subject becomes irritating by the end of the film, the idea and concept of the film and the blatant commentary on our modern society makes this documentary worth seeing.

And clearly the concept was interesting enough to spawn a television show.

Splinters Never Felt So Good

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 24 March 2018 11:49 (A review of Splinters)

Two competing surf clubs in Papua New Guinea show us real passion, desire, sportsmanship, and what it takes to compete under external stresses.
It was clear to me the filmmakers had an earnest interest in their subjects and the subjects had an honest presence.

These are the Amateurs

Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 24 March 2018 11:36 (A review of The Amateurs)

I can't help but like Bridges in anything he does. This is a cheaply made movie that had average results. Its outcome should have been more impressive with such an ensemble cast.

What we already Knew...

Posted : 2 years, 2 months ago on 13 December 2017 02:07 (A review of What Maisie Knew)

A sweet yet heartbreaking story that is sadly too common. While the story is predictable the performances are realistic, especially Onata Aprile as Maisie. And, possibly for the first time ever Julianne Moore did a good job, mainly because she was perfectly cast as a very unlikable mother.
