Director: S. Craig Zahler His 3rd movie My 2nd movie watched from the directorGibson and Vaughn make a memorable team, the dialogue is purposely filled with movie-speak, the characters are engaging, the violence is brutal... the violence is fucking brutal, but the violence is not excessive and not always seen, the ending is kind of brilliant.Added to Lists: Top Ten Performances - Mel Gibson The Bank Heist Movie: Ranked The Most Evocative Movie Titles Movies Where the Protagonist Dies __________ Location: Bulwark (Fictional)

Director: Maria Schrader Her 5th movie My 1st movie watched from the directorA strong duo in Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan, a story that deserved a compact telling of the story through investigative eyes, to put all the pieces together. Nothing brilliant, but worthy and glad it was made and seen.Added to Lists: Top Ten Performances - Carey Mulligan - Honorable Mention Best One-Scene-Only Performances - Samantha Morton The Investigation Movie: Ranked __________ Location: Manhattan, NYC, NY, USA

Director: Tom Mankiewicz His 2nd movie My 2nd movie watched from the directorCandy is never dull, forever affable, and his comedy is enduring. What if you were a part of the world you wrote? Mediocre writing and directing, atrocious editing, inconsistent cinematography style... all attribute to this being a miss for the legend, none of which is his fault, all of which are things people may not realize can make a comedy great.Added to Lists: Top Ten Performances - John Candy The Head Injury High Concept Comedy: Ranked __________ Location: Manhattan, NYC, NY, U.S.A

Director: Mike Mills His 4th movie My 4th movie watched from the directorMike Mills has the touch. With all four of his films he has mastered theme, tone, natural dialogue, and capturing love, all kinds of love. In this film he turns takes it all on in beautiful black and white in four U.S. cities from the North, West, East, and South. There is so much to love and think about in what is also a simple portrait of an unusual relationship.Added to Lists: Top Ten Performances - Joaquin Phoenix (Honorable Mention) Top Ten Performances - Gaby Hoffman Black and White Movies in the 21st Century __________ Location: Detroit, Los Angeles, New York City, New Orleans, U.S.A

Director: Jaume Collet-Serra His 7th movie My 1st movie watched from the directorBlake Lively as a surfer, as med student, as a shark nemesis. A solid enough back story, clever details to character and production design to get her out of this, impressive visuals, tension, and pacing. Nothing too convoluted, too melodramatic or unnecessary, the good summer movie entertainment.Added to Lists: Top Ten Performances - Blake Lively Stuck in One Place Man vs. Beast __________ Location: Undisclosed Beach on the Coast of Mexico

Director: David Lowery His 6th movie My 4th movie watched from the directorThe framing within a frame, the dark brothel, the iconic crowns, the colors, the fog among the trees, the creatures, the misrepresentation, the finding, the rolling heads. An experience, even if not an entirely comprehendible one. It's a classic example of style over substance. The imagery will stick with me and that's enough for a good rating.Added to Lists: Top Ten Performances - Dev Patel Cinematography Still Matters in the 2020s __________ Location: North Wales, UK

Director: Tony Scott His 14th movie My 15th movie watched from the directorTony Scott certainly had a career of hits and misses. This is a notable miss in general, but I was still entertained enough by it. Its manic style and belligerent approach could have worked but it just misses the mark over and over, not quite being cool enough, not quite being inventive enough, and just a little too childish and tone deaf. Knightley gives a worthy performance, not cluing the audience into her likely uncertainty of where this project was going. Scott's "True Romance" comes to mind at many parts in this, but its missing Tarantino's writing to give it the proper edge and cleverness it seeks.Added to Lists: Top Ten Performances - Keira Knightley (Honorable Mention) Top Ten Films - Tony Scott (Honorable Mention) Bounty Hunter Movies: A Seriously Interesting Life __________ Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA; Las Vegas, NV, USA
