Rampart review

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 1 August 2014 03:51 (A review of Rampart)

A hell of a cast for such a messy movie. Harrelson pulls off the bad-ass cop routine and I like some of the camera techniques; but the story was just not enjoyable.

Craigslist Joe (2012) review

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 1 August 2014 03:16 (A review of Craigslist Joe (2012))

A great idea but it's tough to take it completely serious seeing how differently people act when a camera and movie are involved. I believe in the kindness of strangers but the scenarios here are mostly a little too convenient.

El Bulli: Cooking in Progress review

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 1 August 2014 01:01 (A review of El Bulli: Cooking in Progress)

A gutsy move on the filmmakers' part, by not really having a narrative or informative documentary with interviews and facts. It seemed kind of aimless and uninteresting about 30 minutes in... but if you stick with it you realize this is the most realistic documentary one can make; no one is acting phony in front of the cameras or trying to express how important they are... we just simply watch what masters of their craft do to create their art.
It leaves you with a satisfied palate.

Butter review

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 1 August 2014 12:21 (A review of Butter)

This movie had potential to be funny and memorable, but then they cast Jennifer Garner and hired a director that had no idea what they were doing... Then again, Garner is supposed to be unlikable so it worked here... but still, she is so bad, how does she still get high profile gigs?

Red Dawn review

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 26 July 2014 02:25 (A review of Red Dawn)

The opening montage helped this remake start off interesting and acceptably different from the original... and then it went all down hill from there. The acting isn't terrible but the story and writing... how was this ever accepted by a major studio and had millions spent on it? Careless.

And how did they manage to make Isabel Lucas not look gorgeous?

$5 a Day review

Walken is entertaining in this very low budget meandering film with a few payoffs. I may just have a weak spot for road trip movies.

Runaway Slave review

About conservative African Americans. It's refreshing to see this side of the culture; but while the interviews were good the film editing was subpar and story somewhat aimless.

Chasing Liberty review

Moore is lovely; but that doesn't even come close to describing this film. It might be a while before I'm convinced to see another romantic comedy.

Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff review

Posted : 10 years, 5 months ago on 17 July 2014 02:01 (A review of Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff)

Red Shoes, among other milestones, gained accolades for this pioneer in color cinematography. The documentary isn't nearly as good as his work.

Apollo 18 review

Posted : 10 years, 5 months ago on 14 July 2014 05:41 (A review of Apollo 18)

I actually thought this was a really cool idea for a found-footage film; but unfortunately the execution isn't as polished as it needs to be and what starts as an intriguing set-up turns into mediocre horror with bad acting
