Director: Sebastián Lelio His 7th movie My 1st movie watched from the directorA beautiful and painful story of 'forbidden' love, memories of the past, and dealing with the present. The three leads turn in impressive performances. So much feeling and emotion going on beyond the dialogue. The cinematography provides cold and warm at the same time, perhaps allowing the viewer to decide what to feel, depending on what they believe in. The story is engrossing throughout, and in a realistic dialogue and pace, plus the ending is very strong, which makes me question why the mediocre ratings?Added to Lists: My Favorite Sapphic Stories My Favorite Sapphic Scenes Top Ten Performances - Rachel McAdams Top Ten Performances - Rachel Weisz Top Ten Performances - Alessandro Nivola __________ Location: Northwest London, England, UK

Director: Steven Soderbergh His 30th movie My 24th movie watched from the directorSoderbergh always plays with new formats, and his career is full of hits and misses because of it. With this one it actually kind of lies in between. Based on others' ratings maybe it's considered a miss, but I actually liked enough about it to come out enjoying it. I liked the approach to various stories and liked the two narrators (Oldman and Banderas), additionally liked their evolution and change in perspective in the story they're telling. Sure it's uneven and the tone shifts are confusing and themes and moral messaging isn't always clear, having me questioning how such a veteran director couldn't find a better way to put this together.Added to Lists: Playing Bad is What I Do Best (Gary Oldman) __________ Location: Lake George, NY, US, Nevis Island, St. Kitts & Nevis, and more...

Director: Kasi Lemmons Her 6th movie My 4th movie watched from the directorThis movie was kind of a mess. Lemmons' most recent work, "Harriet" was her best, so I thought she was about to really hit her stride here. Instead it looks like it's made by a novice filmmaker. There are too many little things that screwed it up, but the most notable ones were the rough character arcs and relationships that didn't make any sense, especially the lesbian relationship that begins the piece giving us viewer the idea that "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" might be about her in love with a woman but then never truly being able to love her because of fill-in-the-blank. Instead the movie's title is irrelevant, only named after one of her popular songs. The movie also made her very unlikable and turned her death from sad to "she had it coming, I guess" which is terrible. Then the movie ends on a scene that's trying to be powerful like the ending of another music biopic, "Bohemian Rhapsody", except the poor filmmaking just leaves us viewer confused as to why we needed to sit through that melody. I really "wanna" love this movie, but can't.Added to Lists: The Music Biopic: Ranked Top Ten Performances: Stanley Tucci (Honorable Mention) __________ Location: New York, NY, USA; Los Angeles, CA, USA

Director: Tom Gormican His 2nd movie My 2nd movie watched from the directorTaking Meta to a Nic Cage level and having a lot of fun doing it. I was expecting very different movie, with this actually being a feel-good movie. It's a lot of fun and rather sweet. Sure not everything lands and some of the tropes seem more like tropes rather than nods to movies' past. No matter, if you're even a mild Cage fan and fan of movies you will find something to enjoy here. Plus Pascal was great in this.Added to Lists: Hollywood Parodies Itself Top Ten Performances - Pedro Pascal When Actors Play Themselves __________ Location: Mallorca, Spain

Director: Victor Fleming His 33rd movie My 5th movie watched from the directorOne of Jean Harlow's best, apparently an accurate portrayal of her own life. It's got a great sense of 1930s humor and her supporting cast helps to keep it moving. The version I saw seemed a little rough, so I'm not sure if that's age or it just wasn't shot very well. The sound wasn't great either.Added to Lists: Hollywood Parodies Itself Top Ten Performances - Jean Harlow __________ Location: Hollywood, CA, USA

Season 1
This Spanish prison drama is paced really well and full of interesting characters. It's like a tougher and better version of "Orange is the New Black" but with zero humor. ---------- Main Locations: Cruz del Sur Prison (Fictional) outside of Madrid, Spain
