Go Along With It
Posted : 9 years, 8 months ago on 13 March 2015 07:20 (A review of Ride Along)Kevin Hart is really funny in this film that seems to have done the best with his brand and lets him go wild, which is a good idea since the plot is stale and uninteresting. Ice Cube seems too restrained in his role, because he was either phoning it in restrained from the goal of PG-13.
Come for the good time, not for a realistic story. Like with any Sandler film, just go with it.

Gimme More Loot.
Posted : 9 years, 8 months ago on 13 March 2015 12:23 (A review of Gimme the Loot)A slice of life movie about a couple of friends with dreams bigger than they can achieve. It was a little disappointing because of this, but at the same time it's what gives it its charm. In the end it left me wanting more...

Charlie Chan in the Jade Mask review
Posted : 9 years, 8 months ago on 11 March 2015 06:16 (A review of Charlie Chan in the Jade Mask)One of the last of the Charlie Chan mysteries, but also one of the weakest. You can tell Sidney Toler is barely holding on to any interest or ability with the role. And the cheap production isn't as fun as it once was.

How Did They Not Know?
Posted : 9 years, 8 months ago on 11 March 2015 05:43 (A review of How Do You Know (2010))You would think with Brooks' writing and four likable leads this movie would be great... but it's not. Rudd is really the only likable character and you feel bad for him, not his character, Rudd himself.
There are some nice scenes but overall it was a tepid rom com.

Mary Pickford: The Muse of the Movies review
Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 24 February 2015 08:50 (A review of Mary Pickford: The Muse of the Movies)A doc on America's Sweetheart and how her career coincided with the rise of Hollywood. Rather interesting and thorough.
I would recommend this to anyone interested in really old Hollywood.

Levia Than You Think
Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 23 February 2015 12:59 (A review of Leviathan)After hearing rave reviews and receiving several aggressive recommendations I went into this expecting some transcendent. I get some of what is going on here and the message being told.
I appreciate the focus on the effects of fishing and our interaction with nature; but there is far too much screen time given to what can be told, still beautifully and effectively, in thirty minutes.

Excuse to Bring Cast of New and Past
Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 23 February 2015 12:54 (A review of X-Men: Days of Future Past)This is a first-rate superhero movie. Top notch effects, crew, cast, everything.
The problem here is I really don't care that much about these mutants and what has happened to them, what is happening to them and what will happen to them.
I feel like I've gotten more than my fill of X-Men and find it unlikely I will watch the next one, as I'm assuming there will be another one... and another one.

The Amazing Mistakes of a Franchise
Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 21 February 2015 03:32 (A review of The Amazing Spider-Man 2)Following an unneeded but, at least, decent revamp of the Spider-Man saga, this movie makes the same mistakes as 'Spider-Man 3' with having too many villains/storylines. It's not because it's confusing it's because they shortchange every character and by the end I don't really care about any of them.
The main actors are still entertaining and the production is still impressive, which is why this superhero movie is still better than average and better than 'Spider-Man 3'.

Few Came to See See This
Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 21 February 2015 03:04 (A review of They Came Together)From the creators of 'Wet Hot American Summer' comes everything that annoys you about romantic comedies.
Even with a star-studded cast this film seemed to fly under the radar, and it looks like, with good reason. There are no outrageous, memorable moments or any truly hilarious gags.
I, myself, like the subtleties and thought they had a good idea they couldn't quite pull off, and one that certainly didn't connect enough with audiences.

Love is Stranger Than This
Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 20 February 2015 01:12 (A review of Love Is Strange)Two brilliant actors play two gay men pretty straight and are subtle in their dramatic situation.
There are some very nice moments in here but the trailer was a bit deceiving as the lighter, fun moments are few and far between and mostly all in that trailer.
