Ruffalo Again

Posted : 9 years, 2 months ago on 20 February 2015 01:10 (A review of Begin Again)

Adam Levine's ego and Mark Ruffalo's inability to play extensions of himself make this highly anticipated movie tough to love. Additionally, Keira Knightley, who I usually like, has no stage presence and I found little chemistry between any of the characters.

The music elements are nice, plus Hailee Steinfeld and Rob Morrow were nice supporting highlights.

Reign of Ire

Posted : 9 years, 2 months ago on 16 February 2015 12:24 (A review of Reign of Fire)

More like Reign of Dire. This was actually on my 'worst films of all time' list for a while but, Rob Bowman, other directors have proven to be worse at telling a story than you. Good job, buddy!

In a World... That Could Be Funnier

Posted : 9 years, 2 months ago on 14 February 2015 08:04 (A review of In a World... (2013))

Lake Bell is impressive, with taking on the producing writing directing and acting roles... but the impressive cast only mildly entertains. Actually, Rob Corddry gives what is possibly his best, most realistic performance. So that's something.

Almost Recalled

Posted : 9 years, 2 months ago on 14 February 2015 07:25 (A review of Total Recall)

Beckinsale is amazing. This remake is not.

Instead of creating characters we care about and crafting a unique, new story, they seemed to focus on the visuals, which were amazing but began to be a blur by end.

Cruising for Bruising Entertainment

Posted : 9 years, 3 months ago on 26 January 2015 09:53 (A review of Cruising)

Possibly my least favorite Pacino role... before I saw '88 Minutes'. I was so disappointed in this film, seeing that was starring Pacino and directed by the wild Friedkin, who had not disappointed to this point of me watching his films.

I actually finished it but struggled through it. Luckily he made up for the weakness of this film with 'To Live and Die in LA'

Not Enough Room for 237 Ways to Analyze a Film

Posted : 9 years, 3 months ago on 25 January 2015 03:25 (A review of Room 237)

Since "The Shining" is one my favorite films made by one of my favorite filmmakers I naturally found this to be an intriguing documentary to see. Sadly the result is an unfocused effort to take meaning out of the symbolism and elements of the film. There are actually better, shorter, more focused videos online that I recommend watching before his.

Yet, since this is a thing I enjoy doing so much, analyzing classics, I couldn't help but be entertained with thought and it was a nice look back at the film... as far fetched as some of the things were.

Positive Thoughts Toward Winsted are Smashed

Posted : 9 years, 3 months ago on 25 January 2015 03:00 (A review of Smashed)

Ponsoldt's debut feature is a bit flawed but I appreciated an alcohol recovery film with limited melodrama. Winstead's acting prevented this movie from being truly memorable and Aaron Paul just can't be good enough to save it completely.

A Film with the Personality of Stone

Posted : 9 years, 3 months ago on 25 January 2015 02:45 (A review of Stone)

The re-teaming of Norton and De Niro is even less impressive than "The Score". Two notably intense actors phone it in with a story that never really intrigues. Thankfully Jovavich supports the story in possibly her best performance yet. Too bad it will not be remembered, since it's in this mediocre film.

Last Night I Watched a Pointless Movie

Posted : 9 years, 3 months ago on 21 January 2015 02:30 (A review of Last Night)

A back and forth between a couple having an affair on the same night, in different countries.
This could have easily been over-acted or dramatized... but it wasn't, and I appreciate that.

However, by the middle I didn't care about these characters, and by the end I didn't see any point the filmmakers were trying to make.

Making Whoopi Look Bad

Posted : 9 years, 3 months ago on 21 January 2015 02:09 (A review of Eddie)

Whoopi was a huge star... and then she did this movie. She is actually still entertaining but this movie is pure lazy filmmaking. It is something you could call an 'air ball'.
