Carrie Me Away from Moore Julianne

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 21 January 2015 01:06 (A review of Carrie)

The only truly scary aspect of the movie is the acting of Julianne Moore and Judy Greer. Chloe Moretz, however, plays it at a level King and Spacek would respect. Overall, not a half-bad remake.

The Profit Games: Printing Money

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 10 January 2015 02:32 (A review of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire)

I was hoping this would improve on the first because, well that's what people said it did, and then it turned out to be the same as the first: You only truly understand and enjoy the value if you read the books. This is not what I want from adaptations, they should be an isolated art form and not require any previous knowledge to enjoy.

Flat acting and terrible pacing also make this an average dystopian fantasy.

Cause My Polis Has a First Name...

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 7 January 2015 01:50 (A review of Cosmopolis)

A difficult movie to manage; but looking back... it could be kind of genius, or it's at least a consideration considering it's from Cronenberg and very different from anything he's attempted before.

Sexual Chronicles of a French Family review

Posted : 9 years, 12 months ago on 22 December 2014 03:11 (A review of Sexual Chronicles of a French Family)

A surprisingly disciplined insight to a normal family... focused on their sex life. Some of the most realistic sex scenes I've seen in a mainstream movie.

A Colada Pina and Dancing

Posted : 9 years, 12 months ago on 22 December 2014 02:33 (A review of Pina)

I was slightly disappointed in this documentary about the choreographer. After seeing all of the beautiful shots in the trailer I thought surely this would be a moving and transformative piece. Sadly, beyond the beautiful choreography the film doesn't have much to say.

Chico & Rita review

Posted : 9 years, 12 months ago on 22 December 2014 01:55 (A review of Chico & Rita)

The animation looks great but it's a little choppy at times and the audio doesn't always match with the visuals.
The story is is enriched with characters and music and is another painful reminder of how great Havana used to be.

Nurse Betty review

Posted : 9 years, 12 months ago on 22 December 2014 01:49 (A review of Nurse Betty)

This marks the point in my viewing career when I first realized I had a loathing for Renee Zellwegger.
Somehow they made this look appealing in the trailer. Christ, it does have an appealing supporting cast, what the hell went wrong here?

Flight of the Phorgettable Movie

Posted : 9 years, 12 months ago on 22 December 2014 01:36 (A review of Flight of the Phoenix)

First, Why would they remake this? Second, Why? Third, why did it have to be more bland than the desert they are stuck in?

The Family review

I like the premise and the cast but the events and are all too convenient and there are coincidences on top of coincidences.

The Babymakers review

Posted : 9 years, 12 months ago on 22 December 2014 12:38 (A review of The Babymakers)

The Broken Lizard guys didn't quite hit their mark here but there are still several funny scenes and the story is just ridiculous enough to make it a silly funny movie rather than a silly sad movie.
Based on the ratings I'm in the minority here.
